Cak Cak Kecak Kecak Uluwatu 19April

The drive down south to Uluwatu took 2 more hours and a short half hour late lunch at Jimbaran. Damn cheap lunch at only 16000rupiahs (Fiq paid for the extra serving of rice and I paid for my extra dishes only). We were starving, lunch was at 5pm!! BTW I just realized that Bali uses the same timezone as Singapore and not the normal Waktu Indonesia Barat (WIB) for Sumatera and Java. I actually asked the coffeehouse boy at the hotel lobby and he smiled and told me that’s Malaysian time. I smiled back and told him that I wasn’t from Malaysia. Hmm.

When we arrived at Uluwatu, it was already dark and in the midst of the bewitching hour. I brought my own sarong cos it’s a must to be appropriately dressed to watch the Kecak performance. It brought back memories of the days when I was just 16 and was part of Sri Andalas Dikir Barat group and we performed the kecak for 2006 Singapore Arts Festival. There was this tall chinese guy who sat at the front and blocking my view with his TOO BIG HEAD. I move over to where Foq was and was standing treacherously between planks of untreated wood. The head from the pelita was making me sweat and the smoke was irritating my eyes.

Fortunately this was a mild rendition of the actual kecak performance which was originally very sacred, enchanting and mystical. For you who have not watched it before, don’t worry, I’ve captured it on video. Now, say thanks. ahaha.
